About Fannin County Middle School: A History of Education
Fannin County Middle School (FCMS) was officially established in 1992. Its creation was part of a reorganization of the Fannin County School System. Prior to the establishment of FCMS, middle school grades were included in the grade levels served at both East Fannin and West Fannin, which have served as high schools, junior high schools and elementary schools. West Fannin High School and East Fannin High School were both in existence until 1976 when Fannin County High School opened its doors and the two former high schools began serving as separate junior high schools. In the year 1989, FCSS transitioned from a 7th-9th grade junior high concept to a 6th-8th grade middle school concept, and 9th grade students were included as high schoolers. This arrangement continued until 1992, when the present-day Fannin County Middle School was established, and the West Fannin and East Fannin buildings subsequently became West Fannin and East Fannin Elementary Schools.
